Naturopathic Medicine

Naturopathic Medicine supports the body's own healing abilities through the integration
of modern Western medical knowledge and diagnostic techniques with natural, holistic, and
ancient Eastern therapeutic modalities. Each of these modalities works to strengthen the body's
innate restorative abilities, while encouraging the body to return to a state of balance, which can
be lost in the midst of stress and disease.
Naturopathic Doctors (NDs) look at the whole person, rather than a single symptom on it's
own. The full symptom picture is then used to discover and address the root cause of their
concerns and promote whole body health.
One of the most important jobs of an ND is to empower patients. This is accomplished by
educating them about their bodies, helping them to understand their symptoms rather than fear
them, and learn how to use natural medicine to support their health, rather than be a victim to
their disease

Naturopathic Medicine can help with:

- Women's Health
- Fertility and Pregnancy Support
- Pediatric Health
- Mental Health
- Digestive Health
- Pain Management
- Healthy Weight Management
- Cardiovascular and Metabolic Health

What tools does Naturopathic Doctors use?

- Clinical Nutrition and Supplementation
- Lifestyle Counseling-
- Botanical Medicine
- Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture
- Homeopathy
- Bio-identical Hormone Prescribing

Tara became an acupuncturist because she truly believed it’s our nature to feel happy, connected, healthy and alive with purpose.

“You may be surprised that I’m putting points into your hands for your lower back pain. Don’t worry, this is because I use the highly-effective style of Balance Method acupuncture, taught by the late Dr. Richard Tan. ‍ This incredible acupuncture technique is gentle and produces immediate results. The classic theory of acupuncture says that as soon as a point is placed in the body, there should be an immediate shift. I’ve been using this style exclusively for most of my practice and it blows me (and my patients) away each and every time. ‍ If you’re scared of needles, I’m your girl! I’m known for being super gentle, calming, and I have many different acupuncture tools such as laser and buttons that are completely pain free and work just as well.” - Tara Akuna

Growing up in a small community has lead me to learn how to help people in many different ways. From early on in my life I was always interested in different sports and activities, which included multiple sports related injuries. Through sports I was introduced to massage and experienced the benefits this natural type of healing can have on the mind and body, this lead me to discovering more about massage and how I personally can help people heal both mentally and physically within this community.

In my practice I enjoy helping clients reduce stress and decrease tension by using multiple types of Swedish Techniques, as well as advanced techniques such as fascial work and trigger point therapy to treat different conditions.
